To make things clear, the message you shared didn't say anything about the identity nor the gender of the targeted person, it could be anyone.

First I'll try to translate the important words, then i'll try to translate the full sentence and make it very close to english, cause tunisian is not that easy.

- hmoum
- Chleyek
- es5at

These are degrading and derogatory words

Degrading level from 1 to 10
- hmoum (5)
- chleyek (8)
- es5at (6)

1- hmoum is the plural of hamm (in tunisian)

hamm in tunisian is : bad event, something bad
We say hamm to someone when we want to devalue a person.

Situation example : when you see someone is coming (a friend or anyone), and someone else says : oh come here we go again, what an a**hole"
(I could be wrong about the translation, please correct me)

2- Chleyek is the plural of "Chleka"
Chleka means : sandals

When we describe someone "Chleka" it means that this person is very low and he doesn't even deserve our attention.

Saying "Chleka" about somone, is more degrading than the word "hamm".

3- Mataswa chay : Somone has no value at all ( here he/she talks about a female) since mayaswa chay = talking baout a male
the difference :
Mataswa = she has no value at all
Mayaswa = he has no value at all

>>>> Short word : The targeted person is very low and he/she doesn't deserve my/our respect

Derogatory word too.

4- Na3ref ka3bet behin : I know few good ones (Could be females, could be males, could be objetcs), but the context here is about females I guess. Good ones has many meanings (Good in character, good in the term of availibility, good the term of beauty, miney etc...)

5- Now the hardest one : es5at hedha ech bech tal9a 3and rabbi :

How this she/he is going to meet her/his God someday.

Here the meaning is : he/she describes the person as sinful, you mean that they are wicked or immoral, and how is he/she going to meet God with these sinful actions.

>>>> Short word : The targeted person is a bad person

Now, I'll try to translate the full sentence with simple english :

What a scumbag (despicable person), he/she has no value at all, I know few good ones, but this one (she), how she is going to meet her God someday. (We say this when someone has done more bad than good).

The conclusion of the message : he/she is talking bad about the person (male/female)

Help here @Aisha1 , I did complicate things I guess haha

Oh yes that's definitely about me then!
Thank you for taking the time to work on it.

For context we are coming to the end of a drawn out divorce process, and he has asked me to send back (at my cost) a few gifts that his family gave me. I said I would figure out returning them when he pays me back what he agreed during our relationship and after it ended (a few thousand pounds). So we are at a bit of a stalemate and I was getting allsorts of abuse before I eventually blocked him.

Yeah let him know he needs to pay the shipping costs of those so called gifts. I think I would rather burn them

@Mr Kirby I agree with your translation from what I know( Tunisian Arabic is not my first language as I’m Lebanese) but I do recognize derogatory words mixed with threats of god. I will see if my husband can fill in the blanks for us.

Send back nothing unless he pays. Explain to him the definition of gift, it means you are not obligated to give it back, your choice.

I have sentimental items from his deceased mother that I would not plan on keeping, but he needs to come collect them himself rather than expect me to pay £300 to send over there securely.

I have not asked for anything back apart from the money he agreed to, gifts are gifts and you shouldn't part with something you aren't prepared to not get back.
He thinks suddenly calling them all heirlooms changes things, because he read on Google that Judge Judy said heirlooms should be returned

Interesting he would curse me out like that, I bet his friends have no idea the type of person he really is and what he put me through. Maybe they will find out once the divorce is complete.

Don’t send anything until he pays first plus the shipping it’s quite expensive

I think they are talking to each other about her.

@Sosh : Did you find this text in a comment? private message? I asked because it's good to understand the context of the screenshot you sent ( before and after texts)

I have sentimental items from his deceased mother that I would not plan on keeping

I agree with this one and he should collect them by himself.
When it's about gifts, it's very childish from his part to ask for the gifts he gave you.

Let me put the message you shared here with the described situation : (This is my logic and I could be wrong, so second opinion is advised, because Tunisian dialect is complex and one word can mean many things, so the context is important)

1- Mataswa chay : here the word is about the gifts he sent you, means that he is regretting giving you gifts, that's why he said "Mataswa chay" (in this context it means she doesn't deserve it).

2- "es5at hedha ech bech tal9a 3and rabbi " >> How this she/he is going to meet her/his God someday :
Here I think it's about the sentimental items from his deceased mother, he/they think that you are willing to keep them with you. Surely this sentence is about a female person.
"tal9a" we say it to/about female
"yal9a" we say it to/about male

3- Na3ref ka3bet behin : I know few good ones : I didn't figure out what this is about, couldn't link it to the context you shared.

It was a post on his facebook, my brother still sees his posts and knowing everything going on thought it might be about me. The angry faces give him away.

Maybe posting comments like that was in purpose (Not for you but for someone else to read it and translate it)

Do you stil have what was said before this comment, and what's after?

I think he wants attention/sympathy from those people who do not know the full story.
He knows anyone around me would have no idea about translating it. I was just curious what he said as I could tell it was about me. Will ask if there was anything else to add context.

Yes I got it, and please do not share names, profile photos or anything that can be used against you in the divorce process if he find out about this forum.

Only these immature guys would put something like this on fb I mean no matter who it’s about! Who holds comments like that on fb unless on messenger? If he’s blocked it could very well be about you trying to get your attention

They only became heirlooms when my family said they weren't going to return them, and only because Judge Judy said heirlooms should be returned
He can have the dvd of his circumcision back, I never wanted that in the first place
URGH I cannot believe you have that DVD like I'm not often lost for words but what the actual F*ck?!?!?!

Don't return anything, its all BS anyway......also he is never going to pay you back any money despite what he says because a/ he has no intention and b/ he can't send money out of Tunisia as it is a closed currency.

It sucks that I won't get back the £4k, but I pretty much wrote off getting it back as soon as we split. He has no honour and changes the terms of our agreement because his ego took a bruising by me ending things.

The circumcision dvd... we had a huge fight when I initially said I didn't want it and I had no desire to watch it. Very selfish of me. He actually had previously given it to his last gf, and travelled to China to get it back along with some other things. I haven't watched it and it's sitting in a drawer with the other 'heirlooms'. It was filmed on a video camera in the early 90s and then converted onto dvd more recently. At the time I figured it was just a weird cultural practice that I didn't get. I don't know what the video shows, but I'm not risking sending images of a potentially naked child through the post. He can collect that one.

Did he give it to all his previous gf? And don’t feel like you were being selfish I can’t say that it would be something I would want to watch either. It’s his culture not yours

The circumcision feast is a big deal for us, depending on the family it can last 1 day or a few. It’s like a wedding I guess you could say for the son to enter manhood. I’ll just give you an example, my son is not born yet, but we have catered food, will order chocolates, found his little costume, bought an animal to sacrifice, hired music, we will even acquired a camel to escort me and my lion to his party. In case you don’t know Arab mothers go crazy about their princes… yes I’m included and guilty.. hhhh. So yes it is a big deal, it’s part of our culture… that being said, I’m not quite sure why he would give it to you ( no offense), but if his mom has passed away… maybe aunt, sister… someone else or just keep it to show his own son one day… I’m confused.

Now something as you have explained would be worth watching, quite a celebration! But also like you said I would think it would be kept in the family also because it’s sacred. This guy just wants to cause grief and chaos that’s all
